VÍTOR LEAL BARROS

I was born in Porto in 1980.

I graduated in Architecture in 2004 from the Faculty of Architecture and Arts at Universidade Lusíada do Porto, specialising in Urban and Architectural Rehabilitation. I have been a member of the Portuguese Architects’ Association since 2005.

​

At the beginning of my career, I worked with António Brandão and Raul Silva (2004–2006), before co-founding ASVS Arquitectos in 2009. Over the following decade, I developed and coordinated projects in Portugal and abroad in the fields of Urban Planning, Architecture, Interiors, Product Design and Graphic Design. Since 2017, I have practised independently.

My work has received international recognition, including Honourable Mentions in the Piraeus Cultural Coast Masterplan and the MoUA (Museum of Underwater Antiquities), in Greece (2013), and in the Caffè Aroma Competition, in Saudi Arabia (2014). Casa de Santa Catarina received the “Respect for Architecture” award from the Portuguese Architects’ Association (2012). More recently, the Church of Divino Salvador was a finalist for the Frate Sole Foundation International Prize for Sacred Architecture (2020) and was named an “Ambassador of the Prize” for the 2020–2024 period.

Alongside architecture, I also work in photography. I trained at the Portuguese Institute of Photography (IPF) in 2007 and have since produced several photographic series and exhibitions.

In 2025, I published my first novel, Hotel La Solitude, marking my public debut as a writer. In 2026, I published O Naipe em Falta (The Missing Suit), my second novel and the conclusion of the diptych begun with Hotel La Solitude.
