HOUSE IN FOZ VELHA
Materiality.
Located in the historic core of Foz do Douro, Porto, the intervention reorganises an existing dwelling through a sequence of split levels that follows the site's topography and establishes new relationships between the different areas of the house.
Arranged over a lower-ground floor, ground floor and upper floor, the house is organised around a double-height entrance space, where the staircase plays a structuring role, connecting the various levels and establishing itself as the project's defining element.
The material palette seeks a restrained and coherent expression, based on the dialogue between stone, timber and light. Rather than emphasising contrasts, the materials create continuity, giving depth, permanence and unity to the different spaces of the house.
The lower-ground floor accommodates a studio bedroom and laundry room. The ground floor contains the social areas, extending the living room and kitchen towards the rear courtyard. On the upper floor, two bedrooms occupy the roof volume, benefiting from generous ceiling heights and the full use of the attic space.
