PÓVOA HOUSE
Family Meals as the Key Concept for a Housing Typology.
The project focuses on the complete overhaul of the interior space and garden of a 1970s townhouse in Póvoa de Varzim. The original interior, too confusing and with many dead spaces, was completely redesigned according to the client’s requirements, with minimal structural impact. Because this family loves to cook and enjoy long meals together, the kitchen is the main social space of the house, and it was extended lengthwise through the house and into the exterior by reconfiguring the courtyard. Cooking and dining areas merge and symbolize the family’s calling card. The main intention was to bring clarity to the interior space without compromising the casual and spontaneous appropriation by its inhabitants.
