On 3 October, at 3.30 pm, I presented O Naipe em Falta at the Lúcio Craveiro da Silva Library in Braga.

It was a beautiful, sunny afternoon. The gathering was intimate, attentive and wonderfully interactive. We did not fill the auditorium, but we filled it with conversation.

We talked about literature, about the characters who refuse to leave their author, and about one of the questions running through the book: how much of who we are is inherited, and how much is chosen? Everything unfolded naturally and effortlessly.

I would like to thank Manuel for his beautiful introduction; Dr Aida, Dr Maria and the entire Library team for the kindness with which they always welcome me; and everyone who attended, for listening, for their questions and for the conversation.

Some encounters remain with us because of their scale. This one will remain because of its sense of closeness.
